Petra Alonso started helping family and friends with their taxes in New York in 1984. Word spread, and the business grew, eventually moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, where it served roughly 6,000 clients before that practice was sold to a national tax firm. Her nephew Luis, who'd joined her early on to help manage the growing business, rejoined her again when she later moved to Tampa Bay, and together they built District Tax around the same values that started it all: honesty, hard work, and genuine care for every client.
Today, Petra is based in Tampa Bay, where she continues doing what she's always done: treating every client like family and standing behind the accuracy of every return.
Now based in Arlington, Virginia, Luis leads the firm's growth, bringing virtual support, modern tools, and expanded services to clients across the Washington, DC area and beyond.
